Ghana international Afriyie Acquah has denied claims that he opted out of Black Stars friendly against Japan due to issues of bonus.

Black Stars head coach Kwesi Appiah confirmed in an interview that, Afriyie Acquah and Mubarak Wakaso both decided not to play the friendly due to issues of allowances.

Acquah has now refuted those claims and says the issue surrounding his decision to opt out is entirely different.

“No, it was not like that but this is on TV so I cannot say exactly what happened. The story was different and our own personal thing was different. You just have to leave it like that.

Football is passion. If not for the passion I had for the country, I would have told you that I will play for money. The money is not important”, Afriyie said in an interview with Ghanaweb.

Ghanaians bashed the midfielder as reports emerged that he and Wakaso opted out of the friendlies because the Black Stars management had decided to slash their usual 5000 USD to 2000 USD for friendly games.

Acquah who plays for Italian side Torino later joined the Black Stars for their second friendly against Iceland where they drew 2-2.
