Tottenham are set to beat Liverpool and Arsenal in the race to sign Dani Ceballos from Real Madrid, according to reports in Spain.
The midfielder was one of Spain’s key stars this summer as he helped his side secure victory at the European Under-21 Championship.
But the 22-year-old is surplus to requirements at Real Madrid with Zinedine Zidane open to the player leaving the Santiago Bernabeu.
Earlier this week, reports claimed that Liverpool, Arsenal and Tottenham were all in the race to sign Ceballos.
Ceballos started just 13 games in La Liga for Real Madrid last season
Arsenal submit bid for Real Madrid winger Lucas Vazquez but he has other offers available But according to AS, Spurs are now in the driving seat and are expected to complete a deal after Ceballos spoke directly with Mauricio Pochettino.
The report claims that Pochettino made it clear in his conversation with Ceballos that the midfielder would be a key part of his side for the new season.
Spurs, who broke their record to sign Tanguy Ndombele earlier this week, are now expected to finalise a loan agreement with Real Madrid, which could also include a purchase option as part of the deal.
Ceballos started just 13 games in La Liga last season and the midfielder has made it clear that he wants more playing time.
‘Yes, the most important thing in life is to be happy and that can only happen by playing 40 games a year,’ he said earlier this week.
‘My personal goal for next season is to play 40 games and to be comfortable at all times.
‘Wherever it is doesn’t matter, but it has to be a place where I can feel valued.’
